Art may imitate life, but without a doubt, life has shaped the music of slide guitarist/multi-instrumentalist, Ned Bollé. He brings his varied life experience that are as diverse as his instrumental influences: Sonny Landreth, Joe Pass, Steve Morse, Danny Gatton…to his debut release, Box 1, by Mean Old Fireman & the Cruel Engineers.
Slide guitar is Ned’s sonic paintbrush and Box 1 presents a variegated assortment of songs, unbound by conventional notions of genre. Ned is joined by Rick Plourde – bass, Joey Pafumi – drums & percussion, Chuck Whiting – Keyboards, John Wadkins – keyboards, and Christina Lacoste – accordion. Hop on board and enjoy the ride.
About his playing, Ned says:
I was hooked on the sound of slide guitar when I first heard a recording of Duane Allman in 1971. Since then, I’ve been an avid student of everything slide, whether played on acoustic, electric or resonator, lap, or bottleneck style, blues, country, rock, Hawaiian, bluegrass and everything in between.
While I love and respect the traditional sounds of slide guitar, my passion is for taking slide into new territory: Latin, jazz-rock fusion, Meth-grass and anywhere else I hear it fitting in.
