Jen Siukola recently completed a Doctorate of Arts in trumpet performance at Ball State University where she has served as graduate assistant with the jazz department under the direction of Mark Buselli. After graduation, Jen worked as an adjunct professor at Ball State University teaching improvisation lessons, and directing a jazz ensemble and a jazz combo. Jen currently teaches jazz history at the University of Indianapolis, and will be starting as the jazz trumpet professor at Butler University in the fall of 2016. She has been on the jazz faculty for the Music for All Summer Camp in 2012, 2013, and 2015, and was the trumpet counselor at the String and Jazzy Things summer camp from 2006– 2013. She was also the jazz improvisation clinician at Strings and Jazzy Things in 2012 and 2013. Honors include the Most Valuable Jazz Player at Butler University in 2007, and the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation Scholarship winner in 2007. Jen was a featured guest artist for the 2011-2012 Jazz Concert Series at the University of Indianapolis, and an adjudicator for the 22nd Annual Carl Nicholas Invitational Jazz Festival in 2012.
As a trumpet player, Jen has extensive experience as a freelance musician, in addition to three years as a trumpet player on cruise ships. A few performance highlights include playing with the Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra, the Four Tops, The Platters, Charo, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.
