Clennis is an old school guitar man, straight from the 5th Ward in Houston, TX. Many years ago he left Houston with his boyhood friends and bandmates, "Archie Bell and the Drells. They were riding a musical wave called, Tighten Up". Clennis' guitar work can be heard on many albums, and CDs, by many Artist. His music is distinctly different...that is a well known fact.
This phenomenon is likely a result of is taste in music doing his early years as a developing muscian. At this point, must guys were listening to the temptations, Isaac Hayes, Wes Montgomery, etc. Clennis was also listening to these, but he was also drawn to people like Lonny Mack, Billy Butler (Jerry's brother), Melvin Sparks, Ronnie Melsap, and more. He extended his musical appetite far beyond the norm.
If one listens carefully to his smooth delivery of each line, his careful placement of the next scaled note in a phrase, and his emotional musical story telling, it becomes clear; this is no ordinary axe man. This song, "Its gonna be a lonely Christmas" is the first Holiday song he has done.
