At the age of 35, Singer, Songwriter, Cornet and Lead Guitar Player, Chris Canas has a major musical background. It began as a toddler when his mother took him to his first Jazz & Blues Festival in Hart Plaza, located in Downtown Detroit. He was given his first guitar at the age of seven but really began learning to play and take it seriously at the age of thirteen. Chris is making it his mission to keep the Blues alive and kicking in the hearts of music lovers young and old by mixing a little new with the old.  He crosses genres with ease and embraces the diversity in music. After mastering the Cornet in the Famington music program, he joined the Jazz Band led by David Drake. Chris quickly fell in love with the guitar and the blues sounds he was making. He continued his studies after his family relocated to Ann Arbor by joining the Ann Arbor School of Performing Arts, improvising under the tutelage of Paul Finkbeiner.  Not needing a guitar player, he was enrolled as a Cornet player and refined his performance and improvisation skills.  Being that his first love was blues guitar, he practiced almost night and day.

He now leads his band - The Chris Canas Band, and writes, composes and arranges the music that is performed in their shows.  His mom says that his voice is that of an old soul. He has been given the honor to open for some great names in the Jazz & Blues circles and has played to standing room only crowds in many venues and festivals in the Michigan - Florida area. He has membership in numerous Blues Societies and takes an active role in the “Blues in the Schools” program.  Chris calls himself “the Soldier For The Blues” and like any good soldier, will not stop until his mission is accomplished.

Chris Canas formed the Chris Canas Band to bring his soul & funk infused blues not only for the seasoned die hards, but also to attract young listeners to help keep the blues alive. His influences include: BB King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Jonny Lang, Prince, Little Milton, Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Clark Jr. and a host of old and new school cats. Chris' blues will set the mood. Whether dark, playful or in your face jammin',  his presence on the stage commands attention from all sides of the room. This band loves a good time. Ambitious, yet down to earth. Blues meet funk meet neo-soul. The Chris Canas Band can be seen blazing a trail in the Metro Detroit  area and beyond.  The front man, Chris Canas; self proclaimed soldier for the blues, has put together a who’s who of veteran musicians to help keep the blues alive in the hearts of all music lovers. The Chris Canas Band has a well  blended set of classic covers and funky smooth originals that keep the audience jumping and the party going. The group is as diverse as they come with interesting backgrounds in music. The band is available as a solo, Three Piece, acoustic or Six Piece act.
