Radio Submit
accepts both broadcast quality .MP3 format for uploading.
Radio Submit highly recommends using .MP3 format. Conventional WAV files are not
compressed and are very large files that do not provide for better
quality though some stations still prefer WAV. The size of a normal good quality .WAV file is very
roughly 10MB per minute of sound or music, whereas that of the
equivalent MP3 file is very roughly 1MB per minute. Therefore the MP3 file is approximately one tenth of the size of the
equivalent WAV file, with no discernible difference in quality, however,
the compression ratio does depend on the nature of the sound or music
recorded in the file and therefore can differ. For example, why
are you unable to hear the difference between a 256 kbps MP3 and a
1411kbps WAV? If your ears were infinitely sensitive, you could
hear it. 256 kbps retains almost all of the sound to most on players,
either portable or desktop.
The smaller size of MP3 files also makes it easier to store them on the
sizes of hard disks commonly found on modern PC's and also to download
them via the Internet within a reasonable time, even with only a modem
connection. To insure our quality standards, we require that you
burn your CDs for upload at least at a minimum of 320k bit rate or
higher, in an MP3 file or WAV file.
The MP3 spec allows for bitrates from 64kbps up to 320kbps. The
higher the bitrate, the larger the file. A 320kbps stereo MP3 will
be twice as large as a 160kbps stereo MP3, but will sound noticeably
better when radio Program Directors preview your music (considering it
for potential airplayon their stations). Program Directors can listen to your
tracks at a lower bit rate if they choose, and then download the "broadcast quality"
higher rate for airplay on the station.. |
