Doug Moreland Biog

Originally from the mountains of west Texas, Doug Moreland settled down in Austin at the turn of the century as a fiddler, songwriter, and woodcarver!

In September 2009, the multi-dimensional Country Music entertainer released Barnstormer, the seventh of his fully independent albums. Advancing the recording of this album was the evolution of the band's simple instrumentation of fiddle, upright bass fiddle, and drums, with a pedal steel guitar standing out as the lead.

The band's tour has extended from the state of Texas, western across the country and even to Europe. They've performed with well-established acts such as Willie Nelson, Asleep At The Wheel, Robert Earl Keen, Canadian Country Music star Corb Lund, and America's newest folk-rocker Ryan Bingham.

Doug's music reveals influences from the traditional western swing of Bob Wills, the colorful poetry of Guy Clark, and the easy-going style of Jimmy Buffett, mixed with humor the likes of Roger Miller.

Doug has received a Will Rogers Cowboy Award for Western Music Male Performer of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. He also received an Entertainer of the Year award from the Texas Music Awards.

And about that wood carving... In late 1998, Doug discovered a means to create income to spur his musical career: chainsaw carving! After picking the saw up, he advanced rather quickly right from the beginning. He sold his first piece the moment he finished carving it! He is self-taught, with a sharp eye for detail and appreciation for the natural wood grain. And like his music, Doug has customized his art to his own unique fashion.
