Women have always played an integral role in American popular music, especially in blues and jazz. Known as the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock n roll, Memphis has been fertile soil for the growth of American popular music. Hardly anything or anybody is left out of this effort from Inside Sounds, a Memphis-based label founded in 1992.
