You Got What It Takes?... Radio Submit It.
There's a cool new movement going on that puts the indie or
roots artist on the same page with those heavy hitters with label
backing on "label" stations. It was only a matter of time before
someone took the step and I'm happy to get behind these folks who put
this together. Radio stations across the U.S., Canada, and Europe are
pulling songs from these fine folks and spinning them out into the
airwaves on hundreds of stations. Yes and I know this may be a bit of
a shock but, Clear Channel the entity that so many thought was the
death of music as we all know and love it, is now pulling tunes from
Radio Submit artists.
So what is Radio Submit and how does it work for the artist?
Well it's really quite simple, so simple it's brilliant. For the low
cost of $10 per song for a six month period, 1 year if you upload 10
or more songs simultaneously, any artist in any genre may upload their
work and have an open shot at radio play. No more sending your CD that
you can sell at a show to a faceless entity that may or may not even
open the package and have a listen. Upload your "A" material and it
goes into a data base that is pulled from for download from hundreds
of stations in every genre you could possibly imagine. For the cost of
what you can mail a station one CD (postage, press kit printing, and
CD production) you've submitted your strongest work to hundreds of
stations, stations that are paying attention to what's going on in the
roots scene. Radio Submit is affiliated with the Roots Music Report
(see article this issue) so they know what's going on spin wise and
they see what artists are building listeners and spin those tracks
too. It's audience driven, not label ad money driven.
The artist you know and love locally has the shot to grow his
world wide market. Submit it, find out what stations are playing it
locally, request it and make the spins grow and the affiliated
stations will take a look. That look is the first step, the fire
spreads to the next market. The artist who is only known in Austin is
now known in Dallas and then in Houston and then beyond. It's true
